Partner with advisers in your residential college to manage the academic and personal aspects of your college experience. The staff of your residential college is your central advising resource across all four years of study. Your dean, assistant dean for studies, and assistant dean for student life work together as a team and collaborate with you to help you navigate both academic and non-academic issues, and envision possibilities from a diversity of perspectives. First-Year and Sophomore Advising Residential college assistant deans for studies work closely with first-year students and sophomores, in collaboration with A.B./B.S.E. faculty advisers. This is a time to explore and expand your horizon before specializing. Your assistant deans for studies help with: Advising on course selection, including electives and the fulfillment of distribution area requirements Managing extended absence from class and progress on course work Choosing a major and minor Pre-approval of transfer credit for non-Princeton courses Advising on whether to drop or P/D/F a course Connecting you to other academic resources on campus such as peer tutoring Don’t be shy about getting to know them. Share your intellectual passions, ask questions about coursework, and consult with them to find the right academic resources. Junior and Senior Year Advising When you declare your major, you will be assigned a departmental adviser who has detailed insight into specific opportunities and expectations. This does not mean the end of your relationship with your residential college dean. Your college dean assists juniors and seniors with: Advising on electives or the fulfillment of distribution area requirements Managing extended absence from class and progress on course work and independent work Changing majors Choosing a minor Pre-approval of transfer credit for non-Princeton courses Allowing a senior to drop beneath a three-course load for one term of their senior year Connecting you to other academic resources on campus Continue connecting with your residential college dean as often as you can.
